Concerns have been raised about the health of Ya Ya, a giant panda in the United States, at the Memphis Zoo. Earlier, Chinese residents in the US who visited the Memphis Zoo in Tennessee, where Ya Ya lived, reported low spirits, suspected malnutrition, loose stomach, and stereotypical behavior.
A team of Chinese giant panda experts to the US recently arrived at Memphis Zoo to inspect the health condition of giant panda Ya Ya and review her physical examination report and monthly health report. According to the evaluation, except for the hair loss caused by skin disease, Yaya has a good appetite, normal feces and stable weight. The expert group also discussed with the Memphis park about the abnormal condition of Ya Ya’s coat, and made suggestions and requirements to the US side on the breeding and care of Ya Ya.
China and the United States are actively coordinating and handling relevant procedures to try to bring the giant panda Ya Ya back to China at an early date. So far, China has issued import licenses and quarantine permits, identified quarantine sites and made relevant preparations. “Yaya will return to China no later than April 7, when her contract expires,” a Beijing Zoo official told Narada.
